Project Vauxhall, Nottinghamshire | 2006 | passive chilled beam above ceiling |
  |
A desire to provide the ultimate comfort conditions for building occupants meant that radiant cooling was the preferred choice for this headquarters development.
Frenger provided a bespoke chilled ceiling system for areas with moderate heat gains and radiant/convective Carat passive beams where higher cooling duties were required. Viewed from below, the aesthetic differences between the complimentary technologies were totally concealed above a high specification metal ceiling system, also provided by Frenger.

The Bond, Sydney Australia | 2003/04 | passive chilled beam above ceiling |
  |
This landmark building is the first major Australasian project to utilise chilled beams. Further to extensive project testing at the Company´s UK and Swedish facilities Frenger´s Carat Radiant/Convective passive chilled beam was selected. The chilled beam layout had to accommodate future partitioning and fit-out requirements, whilst delivering exceptional comfort levels under the most extreme external conditions.
The Bond has received many national and international awards and the utilisation of passive chilled beams has meant that it is the first Australian commercial building to achieve the much-acclaimed 5-Star energy usage rating (Australian Building Greenhouse Rating).

Vodafone, Hayes | 2001/02 | passive chilled beam above ceiling |
  |
High comfort levels with low energy usage were the main criteria for this HQ development. The Radiant/Convective passive chilled beams were installed in a shallow ceiling void (300mm) above a modular metal ceiling system perforated to 28% free area. The use of such a small ceiling perforation meant that the galvanised deck could be left self-finished, with no need to black-out the void.
A "lighting zone" has been left below the chilled beams such that luminaries can be positioned anywhere in the ceiling plane; affording future fit-out flexibility and only possible with Frenger's unique passive cooling technology.

BT, Leavesden | 2001/02 | passive chilled beam above ceiling |
  |
Passive chilled beams were the chosen solution; however the client required that the ceiling appear as ‘normal’ as possible. Large perforations with an excessive free area were ruled out at an early stage. By utilising our unique radiant/convective chilled beam technology by using our Carat chilled beam we were able to meet project cooling requirements with a 28% free area ceiling perforated with 2.4mm holes. Furthermore, the chilled beam system was tested to determine that air velocities compiled with ISO:7730 for comfort conditions.

BT, Nottingham | 1997/98 | passive chilled beam above ceiling |
  |
This high-occupancy call centre was the first UK project to utilise radiant /convective passive chilled beam technology. The chilled beams were painted black and installed above a standard micro perforated metal ceiling system - there was no need to undertake a costly ‘blacking out’ of the ceiling void.
The Capella Classic chilled beams chosen have the effect of cooling down the metal ceiling system; therefore acting as a hybrid between a chilled ceiling installation and a chilled beam installation. Acoustic absorption was provided by fixing mineral wool insulation to the structural slab.
This installation has proved successful over a number of years and is a testament to the advanced engineering principles applied.
